underwater injuries

I’ve been beaten up… my arms and legs will attest to that. I have bruises on my right thigh, my left and right arms. Plus my right arm is a bit painful which makes it difficult for me to handle the puck. The bruises are small but they hurt like I’ve been pinched… yet I will continue to play the game

great Singapore sale

What do you get when you travel with your underwater hockey buddies? Confusion, indecisiveness, and a tummy ache… from laughing. That’s what happened to us last weekend (9-12 June) when I went to Singapore via Tiger airways with my underwater hockey friends.

We met early morning at Starbucks Shangri-La Edsa Plaza Mall and drove to Clarkfield in Pampanga, ate breakfast and headed to the International Airport. As it was a long ride, one of my friends, insisted we watch the DVD that came with the Lonely Planet Singapore book he bought. The DVD was played but I’m not sure who watched Suffice to say that the drive was full of heckling and jeering.

We rested a few minutes then went to the Queenstown Sports Center to play underwater hockey with our Singaporean counterparts. There were only 6 of us and we were hoping that our veteran player would show up… which he did, thank God! Another Filipino was allowed to play with us, so that gave us 2 substitute players which was great because I was about to get a heart attack from exhaustion. It was a good game, we won 6-3 and I made 2 goals.

We had a fun dinner in Kopitiam right across the hotel we were staying and viewed the underwater photos and videos they took. Our hosts also had us try some of their famous delicacies like popiah, katchang (dessert) and another type of iced dessert with cendol and durian similar to our halo-halo. After dinner, we headed to Clark Quay for some drinks and World Cup Fever.

Saturday was devoted to shopping in the morning and Sentosa in the afternoon. As most of us had personal agendas for going to Singapore, only 4 of us went to Sentosa. It was a very humid day! We rode the cable car to and from Sentosa, rode the Luge, a sort of go cart with only stop-and-go controls. You have to try it because it’s fun and you can go really fast! It costs S$8 for 1 ride and comes with a free Skyride similar to the cable car, except that it’s open. However, the line was very long plus you have to be quick at your feet to ride the skyride, otherwise you’ll get a bruised bum or get knocked down by the seat.

Next we did the 4D magic movie show. It was nice; I guess kids would enjoy it. Then we went to the Merlion Park to catch the 7:40pm laser light show. The place was getting filled up quite fast and we still had an hour of waiting to go. We decided to leave and head back to the city for more shopping. We had dinner at the No Signboard restaurant famous for its chili crab located at the Esplanade.

Sunday was more shopping, specifically in Funan, famous for its IT appliances and gadgets. I was looking for accessories for my camera, in particular a trekpod I saw online. I couldn’t find it there so I bought a tripod instead. Of the 6 Funan shoppers, 5 of us ended up buying Grendene Ipanema slippers, they were way cheap, only S$6-15 when regular price is S$12 and above. We then headed to Suntec city for more shopping. I bought 2 Reebok dry-fit type shirts and 2 shoes from Charles and Keith.

For dinner, we trooped to Steamboat at the Marina Bay for dinner. It’s an eat-all-you-can hotpot/grill type restaurant for only S$12! Our tummies were stuffed with lobster cake, shrimps, pork chicken and beef satay, mushrooms, noodles, rice, fish curry, squid, etc.

Monday was time for creativity especially in figuring out how to pack all the stuff we bought and make them fit the luggages we had. By 4pm, we were back in Manila, heading home to reality.
