black and blue and drowning

Literally, I am black and blue from playing underwater hockey. I played last Sunday (11 Feb) and was accidentally hit by a puck from a pass from my team mate. Luckily it hit the fleshy part of my knee with a really ugly bruise as evidence. Yesterday (13 Feb), I played again and later on during the game, got assigned to be a right back which has a wall. The play was so intense that at one point, try as I might, I couldn’t go down as much because I getting beaten up. Funny thing was as I was getting frustrated getting hurt, I managed to push the puck straight on from the wall side despite several attempts for a steal. It was really intense and fun despite the beatings. I think we won that game.

Drowning… well that refers to the tons of work I have to do. I had an event last week (8-9 Feb) so I had to drop everything to attend to the event. I spent Friday night until today to catch up for stuff I’ve neglected.

Last week, my unit organized an international forum with over 150 registered participants. It was both fun and nerve wracking, what with only 5 staff to over see registration, workshop, supervising venue lay-out, arranging food and refreshments. In addition to being the event organizer, I also was asked (with my group) to perform a “cultural” dance presentation during the cocktails reception on the first day. Plus, I also acted as support photographer for the event, capturing documentations like poster presentations and workshop outputs.

The fun part about being the organizer was the freebie we got from the hotel bookings. We got a free hotel room for every 10 bookings. We already had 1 room from the last event and we negotiated to use that for this event so we could have 2 rooms. I knew my team needed to have the option to stay nearby for the late nights pre-during-and post event. We stayed from Wed-Sat and as luck would have it, the hotel was fully booked so they gave us a really expensive suite that costs around 20,000 pesos/night. Apparently, several international artists have stayed at the suite so we were all really feeling like rockstars!

The suite had 1 big bedroom and another smaller room. It had a dining room set up for 8, a kitchen, a living room and a jacuzzi. The first night we were all soo tired, we checked in at 1145pm and just was thankful we were finally sleeping. Thursday night, we had a little party of sorts… we partook of the left over wine and food (sashimi, chicken bbq, spinach quiche, beef and mushroom, beef curry, cookies, and pancit) from the reception. I stayed til Saturday and enjoyed the breakfast buffet to my tummy’s delight.

It was a kewl experience, staying in that “lavish” accommodation… especially since I didn’t have to do the dishes hehehe!

Was driving to work this morning when I heard Eric Benet’s The Last Time. I just love that song, soo romantic, the style is similar to the classic standards but the words have a modern twist to it. Lyrics below…

The first time I fell in love was long ago
I didn’t know how to give my love at all
The next time I settled for what felt so close
But without romance, you’re never gonna fall
After everything I’ve learned
Now it’s finally my turn
This is the last time I’ll fall… in love

The first time we walked under that starry sky
There was a moment when everything was clear
I didn’t need to ask or even wonder why
Because each question is answered when your near
And I’m wise enough to know when a miracle unfolds
This is the last time I’ll fall… in love

Now don’t hold back, just let me know
Could I be moving much too fast or way too slow
‘Cause all of my life, I’ve waited for this day
To find that once in a lifetime, this is it, I’ll never be the same
You’ll never know what it’s taken me to say these words
And now that I’ve said them, they could never be enough
As far as I can see, there’s only you and only me

This is the last time I’ll fall… in love
Last time I’ll fall in love
The last time I’ll fall… in love
